Daily Mixed Media Collage Journal

Living is a form of not being sure, not knowing what next or how. The moment you know how, you begin to die a little. The artist never entirely knows. We guess. We may be wrong, but we take leap after leap in the dark.

finding my intuition through daily art journaling

Many mornings when I awaken before the sun rises, my thoughts start to race along the narrow winding corridors of my mind. STOP, STOP I try to say to myself, I want to sleep a little more… but alas, my mind has a mind of its own!!!

So, I get up, make my way to my studio and open my large journal. The minute I see the beautiful open page, I already feel some calmness tinged with some excitement and maybe trepidation. What will I be finding out about myself today?

I do not decide what I am going to express as I really don’t know what’s going on within the reaches of my subconscious mind. So I start with an image or a mono printed paper that I have made.

how mixed media helps me

Having paint, pens, pencils, printing and collage at my disposal, I can reach intuitively for the medium that calls to me. I love that open, non planning state of being.

Remarkably, I reach for the images and colors that are connected to my inner being without even realizing it. This is the magic of the creative process. I wrote more about how my art process informs my creative coaching in my previous BLOG.

In the video below, you will see examples of the variety of mixed media that I use in my journal. In the last page there was a hidden message that I was not even aware of until I finished the page! Listen with the sound on (some of the music that i grew up with in Africa).
