Feeling stuck or don’t know where to begin?

This one 45 minute live online session is designed carefully to allow you to express yourself in an authentic way. We start the session with a short guided meditation and then you will be given various prompts using different materials. The goal is to move your experience from your head to the paper in a way that feels soothing and enlightening. Mixed media incorporates paint, drawing, printing and collage. A simple materials list will be given out before the class.

This will be a unique workshop with Artist Kathy Leader & Poet Laureate Emeritus David Starkey: Transforming art into words and words into art: A journey into mixed media with poetry and collage for all levels of experience.

Explore the wonderful world of gelli-plate printing: mono printing without a press, using free painting, botanicals, stencils and string. Image transfers will be touched on too. Take home many beautiful prints! A materials list will be emailed upon registration.

This month: Sometimes life can feel scattered. In this meditative collage workshop, you’ll stitch together images, papers, and fabric to make artwork from disconnected elements.

You’ll leave with both a sense of wholeness and a meaningful piece of art to remind you of all the different parts that make you who you are.

No experience is required, all skill levels are welcome, and all materials are provided.

Learn to layer using translucent papers and gelli prints to create rich textured surfaces. Bring previous pieces that you want to work over/layer over. OR start from scratch. No prior experience is necessary. Let’s embrace our “mistakes” and transform them into something rich and beautiful!

This half day workshop is an inspiring way to reconnect with your creative spirit surrounded by a supportive creative community and guided into the art process with Kathy Leader, creativity coach. This workshop is appropriate for all levels. If you are a beginner and do not have any materials, we can provide them for you. Each workshop is designed around a particular concept or technique. This month the focus is on the calming results of drawing on the right side of the brain. If you have a gelli plate, we will learn ways to incorporate the two. We will make gorgeous drawings on and off the gelli plate to use in collage work.

Collage is great for beginner or experienced creatives. All materials will be provided and prompts will be given in order to inspire your process! La Lieff winery is a women owned tasting room in the fun Funk Zone of Santa Barbara. Parking on nearby streets available. The awesome wines by the glass/bottle available to purchase or get a flight to try!

In this course, you will create a catalog of techniques for altering papers that you will use to create various types of small compositions. You will be taken step by step through my tried and true process leaving you feeling inspired, confident and ready to jump into larger pieces.

This course is perfect for ongoing study as well as beginners who are curious about the process.

When you are able to calm down the brain chatter and quieten the inner critic, the conditions are set up for free personal expression.

This is the best way to celebrate mother Earth in the hills of Santa Barbara at The Empathy Center. If you are a beginner, looking to explore your creative voice but don’t know where to begin, this is for you! If you have an existing practice, we will support your journey together. Together we will explore various techniques in mixed media and collage as you are encouraged to find your own intuitive creative voice.
