Creative Wellness and Mindful Mixed Media

Great art picks up where nature ends.

Creative Wellness

We are surrounded by the terms “wellness” and “self-care” related to our bodies and minds. I rarely hear it used in relationship to creativity. I see creativity as a critical aspect of self-care. Those of us fortunate enough to experience the healing aspect of creativity know what it feels like to be in the creative “zone” where time takes on a different quality and being present is all that counts.

But what is “Creative Wellness”? I delve into this idea in all of the mixed media classes, workshops and retreats that I teach. For me, creative wellness means relieving ourselves of the burden of creating a superb product. Being present with each stage of the creative process is what really allows us to have that feeling of wellness when we create.

I do not throw my art students into the process without inspiration. I liken that to throwing someone into the ocean without a life jacket. My teaching style is to guide, facilitate and inspire. In the video below, you will see how I take my students through a process using nature as a tool and inspiration. Nature heals and so does art!
